2024 Forecast

This is a monumental year for a couple of reasons.

First, we enter a new 20-year cycle. The general “vibe” changes every couple of decades, cycling through each of the 9 sectors of the Bagua Map. We had been in Period 8 since 2004 (coincidentally the year that I began my Feng Shui journey!). Period 8 correlates to the NE sector, which houses Yang Earth and is called the Skills and Knowledge sector. Period 8 was all about getting grounded in the up-and-coming technologies and was very much focused on laying the groundwork for “the next phase.” Things tended to move a little slower in this cycle, save for the occasional earthquake-style shakeups, and following tradition was prioritized.

Period 9 begins this year and correlates to the South sector, home to the Fire element and Fame and Reputation. Fire can be visualized as the Sun, warming all in the area, a brushfire that decimates a landscape while making room for the new to replace the old, or a gentle flicker of a candle, inspiring those around to relax and appreciate the light.

Expect to see more innovation and focus on electronics, AI, education, spiritual pursuits, religion, cooking, and manufacturing. New developments in alternative energy and fuel supplies will be likely as well. Period 9 also is related to women, so expect to see more female leaders and entrepreneurs. The beauty industry, fashion, entertainment businesses, and social media will flourish, too. Many of these trends began to show up in 2017, as it takes a while for a major shift like this to happen. This theme will continue until 2043, with the beginning of the transition back to Period 1 starting in 2037.

Second, 2024 is the year of the Wood Dragon, long considered the most auspicious combination of the Chinese Zodiac. The Dragon is the only animal in the pantheon that is mythical, and the most powerful. It holds a lore that it is the one most concerned with justice, fairness, and has the leadership skills and vision to see beyond the current situation. The Wood element further enhances the intelligence, confidence, and vitality of those born in this year.

Wood Dragons were last born in 1964, so those turning 60 this year will likely find an extra push for evolution, improvement, and abundance.

That doesn’t mean that all will be smooth sailing this year. Here are some things to watch out for, and how you can adjust. Remember, you do not need to implement all these suggestions. Notice what is happening in your life, and then adapt your space accordingly.

NORTH ⬜️
If your job is challenged, add METAL elements to this area. This can be Metal objects, white/silver/gold colors, black obsidian, or a salt water cure (open mouth container with 1⁄2” salt).

NORTHEAST 🟦
If the oldest son in the family is having challenges, or if there are issues with gossip, conflict, or legal troubles, add WATER elements. This could be a mirror, black or blue colors, a black crystal, or images of STILL water. Avoid moving water, such as a water fountain.

EAST 🟩
If you are experiencing issues with family harmony, reducing of resources, or romantic troubles, add WOOD elements. Bring in green colors, live plants, or wooden furniture.

SOUTHEAST ⬜️
The star in this sector can increase the chances of illness. It’s also a lucky area in general. If you find yourself with lingering health issues, add METAL elements. Any metal materials, a metal Wulau gourd, bronze turtle, or metal coins.

SOUTH 🟦
If there is conflict and legal issues around the oldest daughter in the family, specifically around romance or business issues, then add WATER elements. No moving water. Use blue or black colors, blue rug, black crystal, or images of still water.

SOUTHWEST 🟧
This sector is the best area for wealth and financial luck in 2024. It’s a good place to set up a money altar with coins, crystals, and FIRE elements such as candles, lighting, and red/orange/purple colors. If you are experiencing a rebellious child or are trying to manage a challenging team, use EARTH elements such as a ceramic tea set, pottery, and brown/yellow colors.

WEST ⭐️
This is the location of the annual 5 Yellow Star. Place your FIVE ELEMENT PAGODA here. Take care to keep this area clean and free of broken items and clutter.

NORTHWEST 🟩 🟦
This sector is excellent this year for academic luck. Add WOOD or WATER elements to assist with easily passing exams, publishing books, getting a promotion, or improving work and social relationships. A lucky bamboo plant is ideal.

CENTER 🟧
Add FIRE elements to the center to enhance intelligence and overall health. Candles, salt lamps, red pillows/rugs, or lighting will all work.
